Code First Girls

Code First Girls is a social enterprise founded in 2011 that works to close the gender gap in technology. Its model combines free coding education with direct links to employment, and it partners with global companies to build diverse tech talent pipelines. The organisation operates in the United Kingdom and internationally.

Its principal programmes are free technology education courses for women, designed as accessible alternatives to traditional university computer science pathways, and talent pipeline partnerships through which trained women are connected to tech employers. Subject areas span coding education, software development, data analytics and tech talent development.

By its own figures, Code First Girls has taught more than 300,000 women to code and delivered over £75m worth of free technology education - roughly three times the number of women taught to code by the entire UK university undergraduate system. The organisation states a commitment to removing barriers to accessible education and to supporting women in careers as developers, data professionals and future tech leaders.
