Depop

Depop is a community-powered global marketplace and social shopping app for buying and selling secondhand fashion, connecting millions of buyers and sellers.

Depop is a community-powered global marketplace for buying and selling secondhand fashion. Founded in 2011, the company runs the Depop marketplace app, a social shopping platform where users clear out their wardrobes or build businesses by trading in unique secondhand clothing. The marketplace connects millions of buyers and sellers, and the company employs over 500 people across offices in London, New York and Manchester.

Engineering work spans mobile app development, marketplace platform, e-commerce and social shopping. The technical challenges are those of a large two-sided consumer marketplace: matching supply and demand at scale, building social features on top of transactions, and sustaining a fast-moving release cadence. Depop operates within the secondhand fashion, resale and circular fashion verticals, and describes a mission of making secondhand as exciting and rewarding as buying new.

Depop states four core values: show up for the community, have each other's backs, act with purpose and think thrift. The company describes its culture as fast-moving, one that learns from mistakes and celebrates wins together, and says it aims to build a workplace reflecting the diversity of its global community. Employee resource groups include Black@Depop, Queer@Depop and Parents@Depop.
